Hopi Ear Candling

What is Hopi Ear Candling?
Ear Candling is a gentle and natural treatment that emerged as a form of healing from the Hopi people, an Ancient tribe in North America.

How can ear candling help?
Ear candles are used as a clearance therapy that can address many problems associated with the ear and head area: itching or aching in the ear canal, excessive production of earwax, ringing or humming in the ears, sinusitis, coordination of the cerebral hemispheres, stimulation of lymph drainage.

The pleasant and warming sensation of the process often has a calming and grounding effect in cases of stress. It also has a similar effect to that of the moxa herb that acupuncturists use to warm and stimulate certain points.

What exactly are the 'candles'?
The ear candles are not candles as such. They are rigid tubes made form cotton flax. The flax has been infused with extract of honey and contains herbal oils, which are cleansing and have a harmonious effect when burnt.

What to expect at a session
The client lies on their side and a candle is inserted gently into the ear, then the candle is lit. During the combustion time of the candle the recipient perceives a slight bristling and pleasant crackling.

The up-draught caused by the lit candle draws any excess wax from the ear up into the candle and a pleasant warmth can be felt.

When the first candle has burnt the ear opening is checked for any loose wax that has not been taken up into the candle stem and then some cotton wool placed gently at the opening of the ear to retain the warmth generated by the process.

The other ear is then treated in the same manner, and afterwards a massage is offered to the sinus areas around the ears and forehead.
