Therapeutic Massage

What is therapeutic massage?

In therapeutic massage, the massage practitioner uses a series of soothing and invigorating movements put together in a sequence designed for you. The movements include stroking, stretching, kneading, percussion, compression, and so on.

The strokes are applied to the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, mostly using the practitioner's hands, forearm and elbow.

What are the benefits?

Massage helps relieve stress and encourages relaxation and can leave you feeling energized. It reduces aches, pains and stiffness; relaxes and lengthens tight muscles, allowing the body to re-align itself.

It has an effect on all the functions of the body - improving circulation and effecting the nervous system which releases endorphins and opiates, the body's natural relaxants and painkillers.

What can you expect from a treatment?

The first treatment includes a consultation during which you will discuss your health and medical history and what you are hoping to get out of a massage.

You and your practitioner will then design a treatment to suit you. Any information is treated as strictly confidential.

If it is appropriate, you will remove relevant clothing and lie on a massage table and you will be covered with towels.

The practitioner will use an oil on your skin. You should feel free to give feedback to your practitioner at any time during your treatment.
