Buteyko

What is the Buteyko Breathing Method?

The Buteyko Breathing Method is a breathing retraining program that provides rapid and significant improvement for people with asthma, sleep apnoea and other breathing-related conditions.

Learning Buteyko Breathing involves using simple breathing exercises only. It does not involve the use of herbal remedies, supplements or other medication (apart from those prescribed by your doctor). No special equipment is needed as the exercises are designed to be done by anyone, anytime, anywhere.

What are the benefits of Buteyko?

Learn the Buteyko Breathing Method and enjoy rapid and sustained improvement of your asthma. It will:
• Significantly reduce your asthma symptoms and your need for medication
• Improve your tolerance of all your asthma triggers
• Reduce your allergic reactions (hayfever, etc.)
• Allow you to do what you want, when you want without fear of an asthma attack
• Reduce your time off work/away from school and missing out due to your asthma
• Improve your ability to cope with stress
• Allow you to enjoy sport and exercise due to increased stamina and energy
• Improve your quality of life
• Improve your quality of sleep (e.g. reduction/elimination in snoring)

Buteyko is effective for people with all types and degrees of severity of asthma, as well as people with other chronic conditions such as emphysema, sinusitis, snoring and sleep apnoea.

How do I learn Buteyko?

Learning the Buteyko Breathing Method is:
• Quick – just four, two-hour sessions.
• Simple - based on breathing exercises that 3 years old have learnt
• Effective – significant health improvement within a few days
• Flexible - exercises can be done anytime and anyplace

Each course is run over four two-hour sessions (for example, on consecutive days or over two weekends). You learn the techniques designed to retrain your breathing pattern and control your condition. Each session focuses on specific breathing exercises as well as practical approaches to changing your lifestyle habits to restore health. We work with you to identify ways in which you can exercise, play sport, and work as well as essential activities such as talking, sleeping, climbing a set of stairs or going to the shops. On this course you learn to change your breathing and transform your life!
